Tobacco control campaign – Rahul Dravid as brand ambassador

The Union Health Ministry announced former Indian cricket team captain Rahul Dravid as brand ambassador for its National Tobacco Control Campaign.


As India has been committed towards strengthening its national tobacco control efforts this step will gear up activities about anti-tobacco campaign.


With World Health Assembly adopting a target of 30 per cent relative reduction in tobacco use by 2025, the global narrative on tobacco control is increasingly exploring the concept of ‘tobacco endgame’, aimed at reducing tobacco availability to minimal levels.

About Tobacco Control Campaign
National Tobacco Control Campaign has been developed with the technical assistance from World Lung Foundation.

This campaign will provide support to the ongoing efforts of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for Implementation of the Food Safety and Standard Authority (FSSAI) regulation that prohibits use of tobacco or nicotine in any food product.

Around 33 states as well as union territories have already issued the instructions for the implementation of this regulation. According to this regulation, the production, sale as well as storage of the pan masala and gutkha which contain tobacco is strictly prohibited.


World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on May 31.
