Sharad Kumar appointed as NIA chief

Senior IPS officer of Haryana cadre (1979-batch), Sharad Kumar has been appointed the new chief of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Sharad Kumar is presently working as director general (Prisons) in Haryana.

The post of the Director General (DG) of the agency was lying vacant for about last two months following the retirement of incumbent SC Sinha. Sinha was later appointed as a member of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The NIA was set up to tackle terrorism-related incidents in the country.

  • Nisha Desai Biswal – Indian-American woman was nominated for the Post of Assistant Secretary of State of USA

  • Douglas Engelbart –  Known as father of the computer mouse who died on 3 July 2013
  • Mahasundari Devi – Was famous for Madhubani paintings , passed away in Ranti
  • Arun Nehru – Former Minister for Internal Security and cousin of Rajiv Gandhi, who died in Gurgaon
  • Jagdish Raj – Indian actor, who was awarded by Guinness World Record for being the most type-cast actor, died on 28th July,2013
  • Dr. H.A.B. Parpia – Passed away on 9th July,2013, worked as director of the Central Food Technological Research Institute(CFTRI)
  • Pran – The legendary actor of Indian Cinema passed away (was awarded by Dada Saheb Phalke Award and Padma Bhushan)
  • Vaali – Veteran Tamil Film lyricist who died at Chennai
  • Manjula Vijayakumar – Died at Chennai , who was famous as south Indian actor
